The Reggia di Venaria, the most prestigious of the Savoy residences, was built in the late seventeenth century to compete with the greatest European courts. Renowned architects such as Amedeo di Castellamonte, Michelangelo Garove, Filippo Juvarra and Benedetto Alfieri all left their mark on. various parts of this magnificent complex. Downgraded to the rank of military barracks after the Napoleonic era and subsequently abandoned, the palace suffered a long period of decay. deterioration and pillaging, from which it has emerged after eight years' toil which began in 1999 thanks to a colossal restoration project under the technical guidance of Francesco Pernice and with the cooperation of the institutions, including the Ministry, the University, the Regional, Provincial and the local Municipal authorities involved in the project. This volume witnesses the devastation of the palace, its historical restoration and the use of unique techniques and materials, which made it possible to reduce the costs of the work. A voyage through time that documents the extraordinary results of the largest restoration site in Europe. |
La Reggia di Venaria, la più prestigiosa fra le Residenze Sabaude, fu iniziata nella seconda metà del Seicento per competere con le più importanti corti europee. Vi lavorarono grandi architetti come Amedeo di Castellamonte, Michelangelo Garove, Filippo Juvarra e Benedetto Alfieri, che lasciarono la loro impronta in varie parti dell'imponente complesso. Degradata a caserma dopo l'età napoleonica e in seguito abbandonata, la Reggia conobbe un lungo periodo di decadenza, di degrado e di spoliazioni, da cui è emersa dopo otto anni di lavoro a partire dal 1999 grazie a un colossale progetto di restauro sotto la direzione tecnica di Francesco Pernice e con la collaborazione delle istituzioni, tra cui il Ministero, l'Università, la Regione, la Provincia e i Comuni interessati аll'intervento. Il libro testimonia lo stato di rudere in cui versava la Reggia e il suo recupero filologico, unico nel suo genere per le tecniche e i materiali impiegati, che hanno consentito di ridurre i costi dell'intervento.
