| HILLS THAT CAN ATTRACT TOURISTS History has passed through these hills, as it has everywhere, and over the centuries it has left numerous traces of its passage, and changes that have affected their geographical and social cha•acteristics. From the distant to the recent past, the historical memore of this land is populated by figures like the Roman Etnperor Helvius Pertinax and the noblewoman Virginia Oldoini Verasis, better known as the Contessa di Castiglione. Stars of the past have also left their mark in art: Macrino d'Alba and the authors of the mane architectural structures like the castles, towers and churches dotted all over the area, precious containers of the characters and colours of time. In dte last century, this area of the Langhe hills was hmnortalised by two great writers: Cesare Pavese and Beppe Fenoglio wrote about the soul of these lands and their inhabitants, and today their works are the focus of facilities and events that welcome the visitor, involving him direcdy in the appeal and splendour of the places described. Local history, culture and popular tradition and an excellent vocation for farming are responsible for the positive evolution of hospitality in the territory, guided by men's brilliant icleas and interpreted by events and activities that celebrate every form of art tluoughout the year; this means that, laid out on the splendid tray that we offer our guests, there are numerous ingredients imbued with a distinctive and consistent diversity; the richness of the literary historv and culture makes cautious inroads into other important realities: the far-reaching mantle of vines that faithfully covers the slopes of our hills, producing wonderful panoramas, represents the vast worldwide wine market that is supplied wit li products such as Barolo, Barbaresco, Barbera, Dolcetto, Moscato and Asti Spumante. These wines have exploited the precious earthy elements, and they contain the mernory of hard work, and the uphill climb to achieve a much deserved and correct condition. The same values are hidden in the culinarv tradition of our cuisine, recognised gastronomic specialities – including the precious Alba truffle – and combine wonderfully with the wine, producing surprising experiences for the palate. Wine cellars and shrines to good taste are dotted around the countryside, dose to eating places and accommodation that rnay be traditional farmhouse accommodation or the refined luxury of the "boutique hotel", all of which assist the guest professionally and courteously during his stat'. This unique landscape possesses a beauty that appears unconscious, releasing strong emotions and able to attract large-scale tourism but also to offer naturalist excursions that represent an incomparable opportuni t v to discover the Jeep soul of this land.
