 La storia di una delle case automobilistiche italiane più famose nel mondo inizia ufficialmente a Milano il 24 giugno del 1910. Le sue origini vanno, però, cercate un poco più indietro e sono legate a un eclettico personaggio francese, Pierre Alexandre Darracq. Fine finanziere, poco amante della meccanica e molto incline agli affari, aveva prodotto biciclette sul finire dell'Ottocento e iniziato a commerciare automobili appena ne aveva intuito il potenziale business; nel 1896 aveva fondato la Automobiles Darracq S.A. a Suresnes, vicino a Parigi, per costruire automezzi elettrici e, dal 1900, anche con motore a scoppio. A lui si deve un fondamentale contributo alla nascita di più di un grande marchio automobilistico: senza contare che per lui lavorò come capo-reparto Louis Chevrolet. Darracq strinse nel 1902 un accordo con gli eredi di Adam Opel, che fabbricavano macchine per cucire e biciclette, per fornire loro il supporto necessario a passare al mondo dell'auto; fondò nel 1905 la A. Darracq Co.  The story of one of the most famous Italian car manufacturers in the world officially began in Milan on 24th June 1910. lts origins, however, trace from a little further back and are tied to Pierre Alexandre Darracq, an eclectic French gentleman. A refined financer and very keen businessman with little fondness for motorcars, Mr. Darracq was producing bicycles at the end of the 1800s but began to sell cars once he recognised their business potential. He foundeo Automobiles Darracq S.A. in Suresnes near Paris in 1896 where he produced electric vehicles and in 1900 also vehides with an internal combustion engine. Mr. Darracq musi be recognised for his fundamental contribution to the birth of a great name in the automobile industry. Louis Chevrolet worked for him as a departmental head. Darracq formeo an alliance for support in moving into the automobile industry in 1902 with the heirs to Adam Opel, who at thai time manufactured sewing machines and bicycles. Darracq then formed successive companies: A. Darracq Co.
