COSTANTINO ROCCA

This book was written with the intention of helping golfers in the process of learning the technique and strategy of the game. In the first part my aim has been to offer what I consider to be basic information on the evolution of golfing technique.
I believe it is essential for golfers to understand the process of development that has brought us to the level of play that we see today.
Scientific discoveries and the use of modern instruments of motion analysis have allowed an improvement in our teaching methods and have made us sharper as teachers, but what have they brought to light that is truly new? You will find the answer to this question, so often asked by golf enthusiasts, among the pages of the first chapter.
Significant space has been given to the attitudes and strategies required for successful learning, since the key to moving smoothly and easily toward building the swing and using it on the golf course lies in our ability to make efficient use of the senses available to us, particularly those that govern our tactile and visual sensations. The section dedicated to technique
necessarily begins with an explanation of the fundamentals of the pre-swing,
such as the grip, alignment, and position over the ball.
In all this there is nothing that cannot be found in the thousands of books already in circulation. Each of those funclamentals, however, is presented so that for each suggestion there is a rational explanation, backed by scientific evidente where possible. In this way, the reader will be able in practice to accept more easily the choices and sacrifices that musi be faced if
his or her game is to improve.
High quality drawings and photographs accompany the explanation of the swing, and here again, everything is explained with the help of scientific research and use is made of discoveries in the fields of biomechanics and kinesiology.
Each of the fundamental phases of the swing is explained in detail, and I have deliberately indicated the muscle areas which are principally involved during the movement phase, so as to allow each of you to prepare, with the help of an expert, an adeguate program of physical training.
I could have included exercises that contribute to the athletic training of the best professional golfers, but I am convinced that, just as in the case of the swing, where every golfer must follow a personal program of technical improvement, physical preparation is not suited to generalization. You need to consult a specialist, and even more importantly you have to adopt a system that fits your personal needs.
Further along you will find the section concerning strategies of play, where. you can learn useful poínters that will improve
the quality of your game, making it more
efficient and therefore more enjoyable.
