 Attenti al caneFin dalla preistoria l'uomo ha stretto un'alleanza con il cane, diretto discendente del lupo, come ha raccontato Rudyard Kipling nel suo Storie proprio così. Il cane selvaggio, attratto dal profumo di cibo, si avvicina alla caverna dove una donna sta cucinando un pezzo di carne, e le chiede di dargliene un po'. Lei gli getta un osso, che il cane divora. Non ancora sazio, gliene domanda un altro, ma la donna pone una condizione: "Creatura selvaggia che vieni dai boschi selvaggi, se tu aiuterai l'uomo a cacciare e farai la guardia alla sua caverna, potrai avere tutto il cibo che vuoi". Il cane, conquistato dal cibo e dalla voce della donna, le posa il muso in grembo e accetta la proposta. Il grande scrittore inglese ha ricostruito la nascita del patto tra uomo e cane, inizialmente utilitaristico, ma che con il passare del tempo e il mutare delle abitudini si è trasformato in un legame soprattutto affettivo. Ed è proprio l'affetto che ci aiuta a essere attenti ai cani, nel senso più profondo della parola: attenti alle loro espressioni, alle loro esigenze, a ogni sfaccettatura del loro aspetto e soprattutto del loro carattere.  Beware of the dogSince early history, men have entered into an alliance with dogs, direct descendants of wolf, like Rudyard Kipling magisterially wrote in his book Just so stories. The wild dog, attracted by the smell of food, comes dose to a cave where a woman is cooking meat, and asks her to have some. She gives it a bone and the dog gobbles it up. Then, not satisfied yet, the dog asks for another one, but the woman makes a condition: "Wild creature, coming from wild woods, if you help man in hunting, and if you guard his cave, then you'll have all the food you desire': The dog, won by the promise of food and by the man's voice, leans its muzzle on her lap and accepts the offer.The great English writer has wonderfully described how men and dogs started their alliance: formerly utilitarian, the pact has changed through the years into an affective relationship. Actually, it is nothing but affection that helps us to "beware" of the dog - in the deepest sense of the word: being aware of their expressions, needs, look and, above all, of their personality. |
